News Bulletin - Feb. 4,  2007

As the new season starts we would like to bring you up to date with this first Bulletin and answer a few frequently asked questions at this time. References below are based on names we have on our web site.

Status of programs

T1-2006 

Original full program as of Jan. 31, 2007 by the Name T1Full06.exe.

Last Update: Feb 4, 2007 by the name T1UpdF04.exe. If you did not downloaded already click here T1UpdF04.exe

The update includes the following:

- A fix to a printing problem showing a message 'It cannot locate the file UPRVYT'. 

- The original client letters in case you changed them unsuccessfully. These letters will not affect any customization you  did so far as the names are different (i.e. PaperFiledLetterORIGINAL.rtf).   See the 'What's New' after installation.

CRA Guides: We assembled 41 of the most frequently used CRA Guides into a single downloadable file. You can download these Guides by clicking here CRAGuides.exe Once you downloaded and unzipped it into your T1-2006 folder you can access on-line any of included Guides from Help | Other Guides

Efile related

Efile-OnLine (EOL) one at a time starts Feb 12, 2007

Efile-OnLine Plus batch mode  (EOL+) started Jan 22, 2007. Acknowledgements will be prepared by CRA on or after Feb 12, 2007

T1 program set up for Efile:

- Click on EfileOnline | Setup EOL and enter your Efile identification data.   

- Click on EfileOnline | Setup EOLPlus and enter your Efile identification data (normally the same with EOL).   

You must complete both setup screens regardless of how you Efile (one at a time or in batch).

T2-2007

Original full program as of Feb. 2, 2007 under the name of T2Full07.exe

Last Update:  There is no update available. However, we have placed the original T2 client letter templates in a small file (41K) by the name T2Letters.exe To download these letters click here T2Letters.exe 

TR-2006

Original full program as of Jan 31, 2007 under the name of TRFull06.exe

Last Update:  Re-posted on Feb 3 to allow you to edit and customize additional web links (over and above what we offer) that you may use in your Tax Research. To get the new full copy click here TRFull06.exe

T4-2006

Original full program as of Dec 31, 2006

Last Update as of Jan. 5, 2007. If you did not downloaded it click here T4UpdJ05.exe

How to download an update

There is no harm if you download and apply the same update twice. Updates are very small (less than 2 Megs) self-extracted compressed files that download in seconds if you have high speed internet connection.

Once downloaded, the 'WinZip Self-extractor' window will show on your screen. The 'Unzip to' folder by default will have 'C:\T1-2006'  for T1 updates (or C:\T2-2007 for T2 updates). The 'Unzip to folder' box should be changed if you installed the original program in a different folder. Then click the 'Unzip' button. Close the T1 or T2 program you are planning to update before unzipping the update, otherwise you will get an error message 'cannot create output file'.

Updates can be downloaded by clicking the above update links and selecting "Open' or 'Run'. 

OR

An  update will install automatically for users who check for update when the program starts each day. You must set the frequency of checking in Configure | General Options I Internet Updates.
OR

while running the program, click on Help | Check Update via WEB

OR

- Close the running program (T1 or T2), visit the website http://www.visualtax.com/download.asp scroll down and click on the last update for the program you need to update. Click 'Open' or 'Run'. 

Verifying what update you have on your machine

Run the program. The last update you applied will show in Help | About.

T1Prelim06 and production version T1-2006

The T1Prelim06 has expired Jan. 31, 2007. The reason we expired it is to avoid the incident we had last year where some users were filing with a non-CRA approved version. You can re-activate it by downloading the T1Updj22.exe update from http://www.visualtax.com/inprogress.asp

If you have prepare returns with the preliminary version you can open them with the production version. Read the 'Help | What's New' of the T1-2006 program. In fact you do not need to have the Prelim version active to use the already prepared returns.

Forum

We encourage users of our software to register in the VisualTax Forum. 

Unless you are already registered in the Forum, click the following link to access the Forum and then click this link http://www.visualtax.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi and then click 'Please Register' at the top right hand corner. 

It allows you to participate and exchange knowledge with other VisualTax users in an anonymous way. Many users found the Forum a fast way to get answers to program operation or tax questions from other experienced professionals.

CD Distribution

Shipping of CD's for T1, T2 and TR starts Feb 5, 2007 by 'Express Post' for orders already received and they should reach you in a few days. CD's for T4 and CD's for Archives have been mailed out as orders were received.

CICA Books

At this time it seems that the T1 book will be shipped end of February and T2 in May. We will let you know if there is any change in the schedule. CICA and Ernst and Young has informed us that is changing the name of the books from 'Line-by-Line' to 'Guide to preparing ...tax returns'.

In November of 2006 we sent by plain mail the new Order Form and our Nov. 2006 promotional Bulletin.
