With the introduction of Pension Splitting (in 2007), family optimization becomes much more difficult to achieve. Depending on the case, the variables involved to arrive at the least family tax payable can be overwhelming.
Even in the simplest cases where only one spouse has eligible pension income, intuition and experience alone are not sufficient to produce the optimum splits. What if both have eligible pension income? What if they also have medical expenses and donations and/or disabled dependants? These cases become much more complex, as the splitting of the pension affects the non-refundable tax credits which are based on CRA established rules and dollar thresholds.
The VisualTax Family Optimization module performs a series of calculations to arrive at the most optimum pension and/or non-refundable credit splits between spouses, producing the least family tax payable.
To facilitate such optimization, several changes have been made to the program in preparation for the T1-2007 tax season.
A preview of the Pension Income Splitting and Family Optimization is available in our demo version called T1Demo67.
See the Demos page.
Note: The family optimization feature is available only in the T1 Power version of the T1-2007 program.
