A large percentage of users do not download updates issued during the tax
season. Updates cover improvements, late directives from CRA and any fixes
applied to the program after the first release. Not keeping the programs
up-to-date can cause unnecessary problems resulting in inaccurate returns
and lost time.
Below you will find the last updates issued so far. There is no harm in re-downloading an update.
The last T1 update was issued on March 25, 2009 by the name T1UpdM25.exe.
This update covers all changes made to the program after the first release
of Jan. 31, 2009.
To download the update:
a. CLOSE (Exit) the T1 program
b. Click this link to Download the update: www.visualtax.com/downloads/T1UpdM25.exe and select Run or Open.
c. Run the T1 program again and review the 'What's New' item under the Help item of the menu to see what has been changed.

TIPS AND FAQ's
Please review the Bulletins issued before as they contain useful tips:

Previous Profile Users: Some of the main operational differences between Profile and VisualTax are listed here: http://www.visualtax.com/profiledifferences.asp
Efile: If you Efile less than 20 returns a day you may consider Efile-Online (EOL) one at a time. It takes about 15 to 20 seconds per return and you get instant acknowledgment rather than waiting hours in a EOL Plus transmission.
Vision Issues: To display the data in bold see Configure - General Options -> Display -> Form Data display: Tick the box. This option does not affect the printing of the returns.
Savings tax returns:
F3: Saves the current return.
Ctrl F3: Saves all returns and allows you to continue working on them. Recommended for coupled returns.
Shift F3: Saves and closes all returns. Recommended for Coupled returns.
RIF re-contribution: Enter the amount on Line 232 (Use the free lines at the bottom of the Other Deductions form OTHDED). Also adjust the Pension deduction form - Line 314 (form: PNSDED) on line 4A. This affects the calculation of the Pension splitting as well.
T1013: After you prepare a T1013 you can save it as a template. Then you can re-use the template for any other return. This saves you keystrokes. See the top indicators of form T1013
Clearing statements or other forms: Occasionally you may need to remove a statement such as a Rental Statement that should not be present any longer. The general approach is to right click on the form (outside the data boxes) and select 'Clear current form'. This removes all data from all pages of the statement.
NOTE: Certain forms are attached to both husband's and wife's returns such as Assets, Dependants, UCCB, Medical, Donations, Fitness, etc. To fully remove such form data, you need to Stop the coupling and Clear Current Page (or form) from both returns. Then re-couple.
CRA Guides: You can download CRA guides from a single self-extracting zip file from our web site by clicking the link below: www.visualtax.com/downloads/guides.exe After downloading, you can have on-line access to all them via Help -> Other Guides. They are useful for reference during tax preparation.
Business Statements and assets: If husband and wife have separate T2125 statements, press F1 while T2125 is shown to see some tips on how to set them up.
Predictive typing: Predictive typing is based on keywords captured during the operation of the program. Wrong entries are also captured. They are captured in the following files:
Cities.txt
Banks.txt
Charity.txt
Doctors.txt
Employers.txt
FirstNm.txt
MedExp.txt
To edit their contents, you can do the following:
1. If you have the T1 Power version of T1 you can use the Configure | Super
Entries and click on the Charities, Cities, etc. and modify entries.
or
2. Use the Windows explorer and double click on any of the above files.
The files are located in the T1 program directory (C:\T1-200X)
NOTE: Predictive Typing can also be disabled completely. See Configuration | General Options | Defaults and check box 'Do Not use predictive typing'.
Client Letter - Friendly Salutation: To use the friendly salutation on the client letters you can to do the following:
Open a return and click on Configure -> Client Letter Design.
In the paragraph
[If (Deceased = '')]Dear [Client_Title] [Client_LastName]
replace the word Client_Title with Client_Salute and remove the [Client_LastName]
so you will end up with
[If (Deceased = '')]Dear [Client_Salute]
Click 'Preview' to review changes. Click 'Save' when the letter is satisfactory.
Repeat above for EfiledLetter and PaperFiled letter.
